Leaders: some are revolutionaries, dictators and most were born into these positions. Almost all leaders have been forged by the people in their life who have been inspirations to them. Those people trained them into being what they were or are today. They knew that they would one day have a calling to show their true selves. Karol Wojtyła had his father and so did Kim Jong Ill. Mohandas Gandhi wasn’t specifically influenced by a person, but his journeys in Africa. George W. Bush had Dick… Dick Cheney.
The youth of today are being spoon feed into believing that they are going to make revolutionary changes to the Earth in the coming decades. We will fix all the chaos and wrong doing that surrounds us. But, how? How can we be left with such an enormous task? Not even an instruction manual? It’s a burden that haunts us even now and we are being pushed into it without even any guidance.
We will make the air fresh again, we will protect people from terror and we will lead our nations triumphantly. Yes we can. Those words were said by President Barack Obama. Yes we can fix our economy, yes we can stop global warming, yes we can stop the terrorists. If he would have replaced that famous line with “Yes you will”, imagine the outrage. The responsibility of keeping a burden on American citizens to fix global problems. That’s how we feel. Yes, we kids feel the task at hand!
Just the other day, my mother confronted me. She told me about the Inauguration of Obama and what his sister had stated. My mother said, you’ve been brought up with the same value’s Barack’s mother brought him up with. Integrity, compassion, to always defend the underdog and respect for others but also for yourself! Look where his mother’s words took him along with his determination!
If the teen years are the training grounds for future leaders, then train us! No, I don’t mean hire a tutor, I’m talking to the parents. Since you’re in the mood to give us the responsibilities of saving the world from doom, I suggest that you get busy teaching us all the good morals you were brought up with, so we are armed with the proper tools. We might have a chance.
Alex and Brett Harris once said that the teen years are not a vacation from responsibility. They are the training ground of future leaders who dare to be responsible now. I’m very comfortable with returning to old school principles and grassroots living. We’re ready to take on the responsibility that you so unjustly gave to us. Now do your part of the equation. Teach.
